How the Enterprise Platform manages 1,000+ production workloads autonomously with ScaleOps

About Island

Island is the Enterprise Platform powering the work environment for the world’s largest organizations across every major industry. Starting as the Enterprise Browser, Island now controls the entire work environment for enterprises that depend on flawless uptime. When every customer trusts you to always be up and running, your infrastructure has to deliver the same reliability you promise them.

The Challenge

Island scaled 4–5x in a single year, running thousands of production workloads across AWS. Growth at that pace exposed a core infrastructure problem: the team had visibility into what was running, but not into how efficiently it was running.

Replicas were either too few, causing latency events, or too many, creating pure waste. There was no dynamic, demand-driven way to match infrastructure to actual workload needs. And batch jobs required a fundamentally different scaling strategy than real-time services, something manual processes couldn’t handle reliably at scale.

Island needed a platform they could trust to run autonomously in production. Not one that required constant oversight.

The Solution

Island deployed ScaleOps across their entire production footprint, multiple regions, thousands of workloads, different workload types.

The team started with workload rightsizing: understanding what pods actually needed versus what they were requesting. ScaleOps automated the process end to end. No more manual tweaking.

Next came replica optimization. ScaleOps analyzes demand patterns in real time and scales replicas up and down autonomously, applying differentiated strategies to batch jobs versus real-time services without any configuration overhead from the Island team. The automation runs continuously across the full footprint, and the Island team monitors it rather than manages it.

The Results

Today, 90% of Island’s production environment is managed by ScaleOps, giving the team complete control and visibility over their resource footprint. Kubernetes vCPU costs dropped by 40%, and Island now runs 1,000+ critical production workloads autonomously, with the stability to keep scaling without hitting infrastructure walls.

“ScaleOps delivered for us in ways that we proudly deliver for our customers. Becoming more efficient, simplifying the infrastructure, flawless performance, and ultimately something so smooth it’s never in the way.” – Omri Cohen, Director of Engineering, Island
